Training overview

Upon satisfactory completion of the Sounder Sleep System practicum, participants are graduated as Teachers of the Sounder Sleep System. There is no charge for the application, and authorization is usually granted within four weeks once all requirements including payments have been met.

Eligibility

  • Our Teacher Training Program is open to all.

  • It is recommended that you have had a minimum of 10 Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement® lessons or have taken Paris Kern’s course A Good Night’s Sleep before enrolling in the full Sounder Sleep System training.

Educational Materials:

  • Educational materials for the course are distributed on-line.

  • At the start of the course, participants will be directed to the course’s educational resources page where the materials for the course can be retrieved as they are assigned.

  • We are using Google Classroom to distribute materials and provide an easy communication network. You will need to have a gmail account.

EXPLANATION OF THE MODULES:

This system’s efficacy requires immersive experience as much as it relies on varied curricula. The teacher training is taught over 45-60 hours in three unique modules.

  • Full participation in all three modules of the Sounder Sleep System

  • Completion of 45 hours of training

  • In-between segments: a one-hour zoom check-in call

  • Participation in the ‘buddy system’

  • Completion of a practicum in the final practicum module

For each Sounder Sleep technique, you will receive the following materials:

  • An audio or video recording of the technique for your personal study and review.

  • A text outline of the principal movements, useful for review or as a guide to teaching.

Curriculum

The curriculum of this course is varied and employs a variety of media. For most techniques, you will receive an audio or video recording; printed notes, outline, and commentary; and supplementary materials. You will have access to an extensive on-line library of supporting materials including popular articles, scientific research, and explanatory graphics. You will also interact directly with trainer Paris Kern in the in-person modules and the zoom check-in calls in between the modules. In this way, we can offer you a complete, well rounded, and satisfying learning experience. At the same time, we’ll be open to hearing your feedback as the course proceeds, so that we can respond to any constructive comments or criticisms you may have and modify the program to suit your specific learning needs.

The practical curriculum includes:

  • Guided Natural Breathing™ techniques to restore the natural rhythm of the breath.

  • DayTamers™ to reduce hyperarousal during waking hours.

  • Mind Management techniques to quell late-night anxiety, worry, or fear—clear your mind so you can sleep through the night.

  • Sleep-inducing NightTamers™ for falling asleep at bedtime or recovering from awakenings during the night.

  • Organic Movement for self-healing and self-awareness

  • The use of the Voice in teaching

The theoretical curriculum includes:•

  • Insomnia: causes and effects

  • Classical sleep stages and hypnograms

  • Respiration during the sleep-wake cycle

  • Heirloom sleep (Sleep in pre-industrial societies)

  • The Feldenkrais Method®, Functional Integration®, and sleep

  • Working with the Teaching Voice
